How often does the opportunity present to have 4 generations of women (or men) photographed together? A special birthday is one of the best reasons to do this for your family.
Photographing families in the home is something I enjoy doing for many reasons - the images become more sentimental with time and bring back memories of the family home. The furnishings and decor are authentic to the family and add another nostalgic touch rather than using props that add no meaning to the photograph. For this portrait, camelias were picked from the yard, brought in and carefully placed to add a bit of color to the composition and a personal touch.
I was a special honor to photograph the four generations of women of my mentor, Phil Aull. I worked at Phil Aull Studio on Providence Road for 11 years before starting my own business, NorthLight Photography in 1994. I learned classic posing and lighting during my time at Phil Aull Studio as well as artistic retouching and printing.
For Haroldine's 80th birthday, Phil's daughter asked me to come and photograph her mom, her sister, their daughters and grand-daughters. It was a delight to be able to do this for them at their lovely home on Queens Road.
